My Recent Website Flip – A good flip which raked in $1250 Profit
Posted on 08. May, 2009 by Akky in General
Sorry guys for not posting for the last few days. I guess I am posting posts a bit too early. An average blog owner posts around 8 posts every month. Meanwhile, I completed postin 10 posts in less than 2 weeks and also gave away a free report. This is for promoting. I was very busy for the last few days selling one of my sites. Now let’s go more detail into that flip..
About
That was my first website which was based on iPhone Unlocking. I have always tried to promote it. It is 6 months old. The website’s name is iUnlockZone.com . It is a simple One Page website yet it looks elegant! I invested about $50 when starting this website. I bought a startup design at first and then I tweaked it so that it looks much better.
Revenue Generation
I tried my best in SEO to keep up with other competing websites. Even though I was ranking quite good, I was not getting much sales. So what I did was PPC. If you do PPC with the right keywords, you will surely succeed. The website made $80 in the first 10 days. In a month or so, this little website was making $400 per month. I advertised in some Mac Forums, iPhone blogs, social bookmarking sites, twitter, facebook, etc. Also , I advertised in Facebook and Adwords together. The investment on it was quite low. I got the vouchers from Digital Point. $100 vouchers were being sold for $7. So I thought it was a real steal. So I snagged some vouchers to start with. With this, I managed to hit $400 per month twice in a row. The total revenue hit around $900 in 6 months which is not bad for a high competitive niche like this.
The constant offers and promotional price changes did wonders to keep the site going on.
Traffic generation
The site due to heavy advertising receives about 80 – 100 visits daily. The site under went a major change in the design recently. So the traffic dropped by 10 or 20 visits.
Design
Some days before flipping it, I asked for a design from Flockey.com . The design was done by James McDonald. He owns the site Flockey.com . He does an amazing work. He is a university student. He studies for graphic designing. Top notch designs for that price is amazing. I have worked with him in the past, What can I say, Pure Awesomeness!
Total Investment
Startup Costs – $50
Advertising – $100
New Design - $250
————————–
Total – $400
The last part… Flipping it..
I have actually tried many times to sell this site. But failed all times. Either does not get any bids or does not meet the reserve…Finally, I thought I would try one more time in SitePoint. It sure was a fantastic decision made by me. I listed it with some upgrades, that costed me around $30 in all. One day before the closure of the auction, I got a bid which met the reserve price which was $750. Check out the bids I’ve received in the below screenshot.

The total profit was around $1250 which is not bad since it was a very tough niche but at the same time revenue generating. So it basically was a good experience and I hope I shared a good story with you all.
Stay tuned,
Akhil
